Exploring a Unusual Steam Demo: Playing as a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have encountered numerous engaging indie games. But, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure includes a protagonist that is actually a dung trying to travel to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is easy to grasp: just use a single jump button. In numerous challenges, encounter boss fights and access a market to purchase customizations for your poop character.

Time your actions with caution, since one wrong move requires restarting the level. Leap off bubbles to hurl the poop upward, traverse disappearing surfaces, and activate triggers to open new areas. Earn currency for buying tougher stages in which gameplay ramps up.

Graphically, the experience boasts neon environments and catchy music score. The simple art featuring moving abstract forms could recall gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.

Even though difficult to name similar titles where you are a coiled turd, interactive entertainment frequently featured fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as fertilizer. Naturally, fecal references appears extensively in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already garnered significant awards, like being named best at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is accessible now on Steam, with the complete version set to debut on computers on November 19.
